Masonry Contractor in Red Lion, PA
We’re based in York and work in Red Lion regularly. Retaining walls, patios, brick repointing, chimney rebuilds, historical restoration, block walls, and sealing. One crew, honest estimates, and work that holds up through decades of Pennsylvania weather.

A working town with masonry that has been earning its keep for 150 years
Red Lion was built on cigars. The borough grew up around the cigar manufacturing trade in the late 1800s, and the brick factory buildings and worker rowhomes from that era still define the look of the town today. Walk down Main Street, Broadway, or East Lancaster and you’re looking at brickwork that has been doing its job since before any of us were born. Beyond the borough core, Windsor Township and the surrounding area have a mix of newer residential builds, farms, and a steady supply of homes that need masonry attention.
We work in Red Lion regularly. We know the housing stock and we know what the Red Lion Borough permit process looks like for different types of work. All permits go through the Borough Office at 438 E. Lancaster Street, and depending on the project, inspections are handled by either Commonwealth Code Inspection Service or Code Administrators, Inc. We pull permits when they are required and tell you straight when they are not.
If you have been looking at a cracked chimney, brickwork that needs repointing, a settling patio, or a retaining wall that has shifted, send us a photo. We will tell you what it actually needs.
Every masonry service, one crew, one call
Here is what we do. Each one links to a full page with details, process, and pricing information.
Retaining Walls
Stone, block, or brick. Footings below frost, real drainage, geogrid where needed. Many Red Lion properties, especially the older ones with original lot grading, have grade changes that need a wall to hold them. We build for the site you actually have.
Retaining wall detailsPaver Patio Installation
Concrete pavers, flagstone, or clay brick. Built on a compacted base that actually holds its shape through Pennsylvania winters. The patio that is still flat in twenty years.
Patio installation detailsHistorical Restoration
Red Lion has its share of pre-1950 brick, especially in the borough center. We repoint with lime mortar, match the original joint profile, and replace failed bricks one at a time. The work that keeps old houses old in the good way.
Historical restoration detailsBlock & Brick Wall Installation
New garden walls, privacy walls, foundation walls, mailbox pillars. Block, brick, or block core with brick veneer. Built with proper footings and clean joints.
Wall installation detailsMasonry Sealing
Brick, stone, pavers, and concrete. Penetrating sealers that stop water before it freezes and spalls. The cheapest insurance your masonry can have.
Sealing detailsHardscaping
Patios, walkways, stone steps, fire pits, seating walls, and everything else permanent in the yard. Doing it together costs less than doing it in pieces.
Hardscaping detailsOld industry brick, factory-era rowhomes, and decades of weather
A lot of Red Lion was built between 1880 and 1920, during the cigar manufacturing boom. The brick from that era is soft by modern standards. It was built with lime mortar that was meant to flex, breathe, and wear out before the brick did. After 100+ years, those joints have done their job and now need careful repointing with the right mortar, not modern portland cement (which actually accelerates damage to old brick).
The factory-era rowhomes off Main Street, Broadway, and the streets running off them often share party walls with neighbors, which means the chimney you’re worried about may also be your neighbor’s. We’ve worked in this kind of construction enough to know how to handle the coordination, the access challenges, and the mortar matching that keeps the work invisible from the street.
For homes built after 1950 in the borough’s outer neighborhoods and Windsor Township, the issues are usually different: patios that settled because the base wasn’t built right, retaining walls on sloped lots that were thrown together without drainage, chimneys that have weathered 30+ years without attention, or concrete walkways and stoops that are spalling. All fixable.
The brick that built Red Lion is some of the best brick we work with in York County. It just needs the right care to keep doing what it has been doing for a century.

What Red Lion homeowners ask us
We work in Red Lion regularly. We’re based in York, about 15 minutes northwest, and Red Lion is in our core service area. No trip charge, no difference in pricing. If you are in the borough or any of the surrounding areas (Windsor Township, Yoe, Dallastown, Felton, Yorkana, Winterstown), we are happy to come out for a free estimate.
It depends on the work. In Red Lion Borough, building permits are required for structural work like new foundation walls, walls over 4 feet, and additions. ALL permits are submitted through the Borough Office at 438 E. Lancaster Street, then inspections go to either Commonwealth Code Inspection Service or Code Administrators, Inc. (you’ll be told which one when you pick up your application). One thing worth knowing: under PA’s Neighborhood Blight Reclamation Act, if you have unpaid taxes or code violations on any property in the borough, your permit can be denied until those are resolved. Surface work like repointing, sealing, or patio installation often only needs a zoning permit, not a full building permit. We handle the paperwork as part of the job.
Usually yes. Most Red Lion homes use brick that was produced regionally in the late 1800s and early 1900s. We source from local suppliers who carry matching units, and for very old or unusual brick we can sometimes find salvaged material. We are honest when an exact match is not achievable and show you samples before ordering. For repointing, we custom-mix the mortar color and texture to match the original so the repair blends into the wall instead of standing out.
Same as the rest of York County. Repointing runs $10 to $25 per square foot. Paver patios run $14 to $22 per square foot. Retaining walls run $40 to $80 per square foot of wall face. Sealing runs $1.50 to $4 per square foot. We give written, itemized estimates after seeing the site. Each of our service pages has more detailed pricing information.
Typical lead time is 2 to 6 weeks depending on the season and the size of the job. Spring and early summer book up fastest. Small jobs like sealing or minor repointing can sometimes be scheduled within a week or two. For larger projects, the sooner you start the conversation, the better your spot on the schedule.
